BIO

Anna Dmytrenko, born 1998 in Kremenchuk, Ukraine.

During 2015–2018, studied Documentary Filmmaking at Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Kary Theatre, Cinema and Television University in Kyiv, Ukraine. In 2022, due to the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, moved to Berlin, Germany. In 2023, joined the foundationClass art education programme at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. Took part in exhibitions as part of the foundationClass collective at Yermilov Centre, Kharkiv, Ukraine, and Savvy Contemporary, Berlin, Germany. Since 2024, has been studying Visual Communication at Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee.

Anna is interested in an experimental approach, where the idea chooses the medium, from film to fine art techniques. Her current focus is on ceramic sculpture and painting. Her works stem from reflections on post-traumatic growth and the idea of radical sincerity. Honest, and often rooted in personal and family history. That is why she works quickly, straight from impulse. Her figures appear as dreamlike creatures in clay, or as blurred or as raw textured abstract characters inhabiting liminal spaces on canvas and paper.
